Florida is known for having hard water, which leads to stains, bacteria, bad taste or smell, and faster deterioration of appliances. We provide a free water test.
Florida's water is hard because of its karst topography, which is a landscape formed by the dissolution of carbonate rocks. The state has a layer of porous limestone called the Floridan Aquifer System, which contains high levels of calcium and magnesium. As groundwater passes through the aquifer's underground fractures, cavities, and tunnels, it dissolves minerals from the soil and stone, making the water hard. The water may also contain trace minerals from lakes, rivers, and older plumbing.
Hard water can cause buildup in water appliances and on dishes, and it can also cut the lifespan of equipment in half. In some cases, hard water sediments can carry harmful bacteria. To deal with the negative effects of hard water, people in Florida often use water softeners.
